How will the other half live?

 

At McCarthy Group we are proud of the fact that many of the families who work through a Lifestyle Planning Workbook with us, which means calculating their current finances and projecting forward to their likely future financial picture, end up making a property investment decision through us.

Quite a number have then gone on to become multiple investors, and describe their decision as ‘life-changing’ in terms of its impact. The decision point was the stark view of their financial ‘Lifeline’, seen in black-and-white, that made them realise that positive change had to take place if their future circumstances were to change.

Our clients are not rich investors. They are everyday Australians, often with both partners working, a mortgage to meet, aspirations for their kids in terms of school and uni, and the hope of one day being able to retire in circumstances where they have sufficient income to meet their lifestyle needs once work stops.

One of the big differences between a family who can make the decision to go ahead, based on the same set of circumstances as a family who can’t, is the ability to overcome their fears, and step outside their comfort zone.

What enables them to do this and make this leap of faith is a story in its own right. What I can say is that in virtually every single instance, there are initial fears and apprehensions – about making a mistake, or getting it wrong, or losing money, or being ripped off. Every first-time investor has to face these fears, and overcome them, before they can get established on a new road into the future.

I often wonder, however, what becomes of the families who hesitate, or decline, for reasons, excuses, fears etc. What becomes of these families in the future? How do they ever overcome the certainty of an uncomfortable retirement in financial terms, when it is so clear in the present just where they are headed?

How would they be feeling, after seeing what will likely transpire, after having a logical and proven solution presented to them, but then declining to act, and – worst of all – seeing what was forecast for the future, actually unfolding and coming true?

That’s one reason why we keep communicating with prospective clients we have seen over the years, but who haven’t yet made a decision to invest. We know the decision is tough, and scary. However, it’s our goal to help every family that we possibly can, to discover the power of investment property as an investment solution that can transform their future lives.

So if you are in this category, please excuse us for not giving up on you. We care too much, and our hope is that over time, by staying in touch, and by sharing key information with you, that one day we can sit together again and develop a strategy with you that will lead to the achievement of a comfortable retirement when the time comes to stop work.
