The McCarthy Interview

There is consensus that there is a direct relationship between the thoughts we choose to hold in our minds, and the resulting outcomes in our lives.

The direction of flow is that first we have thoughts, that control our feelings, that influence our actions, and which finally determine our outcomes.
Thoughts – feelings – actions – outcomes.

This is a profound realisation, because this means that if you are not happy with your outcomes, and if you feel you are stuck in a rut and going nowhere, the place to start to create change is in your thought processes, because change has to happen there first, before it can be manifest elsewhere.

The key to understanding this is that the drive within our brains is not directly exposed to reality. Instead, it continuously interprets and responds to what we tell it we are experiencing (through our thoughts and senses). The brain then obediently goes to work to create the matching outcomes.

So if I say to myself, “I feel so tired”, the brain automatically starts working to confirm the set of conditions associated with tiredness, like lethargy, a drain of energy, yawning, and heavy eyes. It acts to bring into being the feelings, actions and outcomes associated with tiredness. This could be fatal if, for example, you send this message to your brain while you are driving, and you end up falling asleep at the wheel.

When you train your mind to focus only on the positive – and when you have learnt to block the flow of negative thoughts – you are able to unleash forces for positive change that are virtually unstoppable. Here’s an example for you to think about, and that you could put to work for yourself in terms of creating outstanding outcomes, if you chose to:

“I am so lucky to live in Australia. It is perfectly balanced, is a land of plenty, and has fantastic potential. It’s the land of the Fair Go, and everyone has an equal opportunity to get ahead.
I have decided to increase my wealth, through hard work in my career, and through property. I have chosen property because of its stability and continued growth over the past 100 years.
I am going to increase my holdings of property, and I am going to select ideal investment properties, using the specialist resources that are available to help me today.
I know there will be ups and downs along the way, and that there will be people who try to sway me from my goal.
I will remain focused on the long-term trends and the long-term security of property, and this will confirm and strengthen my decisions and actions, even as the values grow year by year.
I am determined to grow my wealth through property, and I know that I am choosing a path that has proved successful for so many people over such a long time.”
