Australia has emerged from the GFC as the best placed country amongst all
developed nations. How will you use this
big dose of Good Luck?
Every day we read of expats deciding to call Australia home again, and of
more and more people from the UK deciding to move here given how well our economic
prospects have held up (think ‘jobs’), and of course for the abundance
of all things good that we sometimes take for granted (think ‘weather,
beaches, lifestyle…’).
I stopped to think how fortunate we are to already be here! Then I asked
myself, “Am
I really making the most out of a situation that must rank as about the best
in the whole world?”
“
Despite the worst global recession in 75 years, Australia is weathering the
storm better than virtually every other advanced economy,” Mr
Swan told parliament after the announcement of a 0.4% growth rate in
the March quarter.
“
We can take some heart from the fact that the combination of our resilience
and policy action has allowed Australia to have the strongest performing economy
in the developed world,” Mr Swan added.
Spare a thought for the millions of people who would give their eye teeth
to be here and to be able to participate and invest in the Lucky Country
that
we are all so fortunate to call Home. What’s more, the Australian investment property model is exceptional
in global terms, and enables mum and dad investors to invest and build their
assets supported by a tax system that views the investment as a business, and
encourages it because it frees the government from the responsibility of investing
in public housing.
