The McCarthy Interview

“Destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice; it is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved.”

These were the famous words spoken by American orator William J. Bryan. Bryan was a Democratic nominee for President of the United States of America in 1896, 1900 and 1908. We identify very strongly with his view that our destiny is in our own hands, and that great outcomes can be achieved as a result of choices, decisions and actions made along the journey of life.

The definition that we definitely don’t agree with is the following extract from an online dictionary:

Destiny - “The predetermined, usually inevitable or irresistible, course of events.”

This definition implies that your future outcomes are beyond your control; that they will happen no matter what. Many people do live their lives this way, and miss the opportunity to plan and achieve great things.

At McCarthy Group we don’t subscribe to this dictionary definition. To do so would be to give away our ability to influence or shape our futures, and, instead simply follow life’s journey wherever it may lead.

We are all born with fantastic potential, all wrapped in the miracle of nature that is the human form. Whether or not we fulfil our potential, and become the best that we can be, is not something that is already decided for us when we first come into the world.

Our brains and our minds are what set man apart from the rest of the animal kingdom. We have the capacity for thought, and we have at our disposal the enormous power of our minds to visualise desired outcomes, and then pursue the actions that will lead us there.

It is in the difference between these two philosophies on destiny that will determine whether you will fulfil your potential and achieve a destiny of which you can be proud, or whether you will simply ‘go with the flow’ wherever the river of life chooses to take you.

Don’t leave your life to chance. It is too precious, and it can deliver so much more than you can imagine, if you would simply shape it to do so.

If you have been ‘going with the flow’ you can choose to take control of your destiny at any time. The potential is already within you to achieve great things, and it is the focused thought and willpower that you bring to bear on your future and what you want to achieve that will shape your destiny.
